ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the theoretical underpinnings of the methodologies I adopt for both the fieldwork and the writing of this book. I focus on the community as a diverse symbolisation existing by virtue of individuals’ ongoing interpretations and interactions – of community as process. I employ many methods in this study, yet, it is the concept of embodied reflexive ethnography which influenced the nature of my fieldwork and the writing of this book. This methodology is largely inspired by the need to re-insert the anthropologist or ethnographer into their research and to reflexively explore their impact on the processes and interactions they record and discuss.
