ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 presents and analyses various statistical developmental measures which have been proposed in literature for the purpose of assessing learners’ use and acquisition of L2 lexis based on samples of their production. A comprehensive review of several types of measures tapping into the fluency, accuracy and complexity aspects of lexical proficiency is conducted. The chapter also reports on most recent attempts at quantifying phraseological proficiency, which is strongly related to lexical proficiency, and which also plays a role in evaluation of text quality.
