ABSTRACT

One of the people favorite breathing and physical endurance exercises is the “monkey-breathing dance” taught to the reader by Mexican performance poet Araceli Romero. Begin by forming a circle and starting a simple exercise of stretching and breathing to warm up the body. Focus on expanding the people body and start moving in their own terms. Through human history the people have learned that many cultures around the world have practiced dances that intend to free the body from the mind. Ritualizing the use of objects and costumes in performance is an ancient practice which can be found in most forms of indigenous rituals and in the history of performance throughout the world. It is important to begin to push the physical limits of the body the people are working with and at the same time to be sensitive to its limits, specificities, and possibilities.
