ABSTRACT

This Chapter will discuss the four components of solution implementation. To successfully implement a solution sequence, therapists must collaborate with clients to establish a shared understanding of their readiness to try a solution and, if they are inclined to try it, consolidate the plan, establish their commitment to it, and review the results of their attempts at it. Solution sequences are typically described as experiments for clients to try. Experiments with new sequences when successfully enacted can produce movement toward problem resolution. When the experiment is not attempted, or when the clients have difficulty sustaining their effort or maintaining the solution, then the therapist and clients have the opportunity to learn from the experiment as they explore the factors that constrained the performance of the experiment.
