ABSTRACT

Following Samuel Lapsley’s death, Mr. William M. Morrison was appointed from Sheppard’s presbytery in Virginia to join the APCM in Luebo in 1897. Mr. Morrison was put in charge of the treasury while Mr. Sheppard was the senior missionary. Mr. Morrison was impressed and encouraged by the warm welcome that both received as they passed through Kuba villages for three days. The villagers certainly remembered Mr. Sheppard’s convivial interactions with them during his first exploratory journey to the heart of the Kuba land in 1892 and invited the two missionaries to establish stations in their villages. With the protection of their village allies, Sheppard and Morrison started clearing the ground for their “village.”
