ABSTRACT

This chapter describes Ware’s idea of people having three ways in which they can be contacted: thinking, feeling and behaving. Ware uses the metaphor of doors to describe how one of the ways of contact might be most easily accessible whereas another might be closely guarded. There are three approaches in contacting the coachee: inviting their thinking, feeling or behaviour. Different personalities with different Working Styles will have each of the three approaches arranged in a different order linking with an open, target or trap door. Coachees with a Be Perfect style are already hard on themselves to be perfect. Coachees with a Please People style will be readily in touch with their feelings, that being their open door.
