ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the adaptation of the Cycle of Development into a useful framework to understand the psychological processes that occur during any significant change. VUCA is an acronym coined by Bennis and Nanus to describe systems that are increasingly Volatile and Unpredictable and have Complexity and Ambiguity. Working authentically and powerfully in the twenty-first-century workplace necessitates frameworks to support and successfully navigate change. Hay adapted Clarke’s Cycle of Development Model to create a model for supporting change, called the Competence Curve. The coach can help the coachee to name what they are feeling and engage productively with what their needs are at each stage.
