ABSTRACT

This chapter positions Transactional Analysis (TA) primarily as a tool for the coach’s growth in self-awareness and presence as well as offering some tools that are easily shared with coachees to help expand their awareness of how they might develop towards their desired goals. The philosophy of shared respect and belief in everyone’s ability to change resonates powerfully with the idea of partnership being at the heart of coaching. Coaching is a container for individuals and groups to understand themselves better and create a future of possibilities. There is a perfect philosophical match between coaching and TA – coaching as a partnership with coachees, believing that they are the experts in their own lives, that they can think and make new meaning of who they are within their systems, and change for the benefit of all.
