ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how the understanding of script and the Autonomy Cycle can be a powerful tool to invite coachees to work on a transformational level to achieve the external goals they desire. The International Coaching Federation core competencies of listening actively and evoking awareness come into play. This includes both powerful questioning and the sharing of observations and insights that have the potential to invite the coachee to see things from a new perspective. Listening at the level of the person is the springboard to questions and observations to invite change. Through noticing possible limiting script beliefs, the coach mirrors back and challenges aspects about which the coachee is probably not even aware Awareness leads to options and choices for change. Once change at this level has been integrated and slowly becomes the ‘new normal’, it has the capacity to filter through into many different aspects of the coachee’s life and work.
