ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the Transactional Analysis frameworks that together add to the co-creation of an authentic and trusting coaching relationship when there might be significant differences in the cultural background of the coach and coachee. In working within diversity, this provides a useful framework for the focus of conversation while designing the coaching alliance at the start of a contract. Coaching across diversity demands authentic connection firstly with ourself as coach and then with the other who is the coachee. The ongoing journey of self-awareness and development as a coach is crucial so that we know who are at a deep level and don't have to become defensive in the face of difference. A 'being at home' with who we are can enable an ease of discovering who the co-designing a working alliance to support rich transformational coaching. A realisation of the deep influences in all people can be the springboard for co-creating a respectful relationship for coaching.
