ABSTRACT

This chapter describes one of the foundational frameworks of Transactional Analysis, also called I’m OK, You’re OK and Windows on the World. Berne intentionally used colloquialisms to level the psychological playing fields of his day when psychological professionals wielded power over their clients. OKness is not about material possessions, achievements or outward signs of success. Hay uses the metaphor of people having the choice of looking out of four different windows – what we notice will be different through each. It is entirely about an individual’s internal sense of who they are in relation to the other, irrespective of what the other’s internal attitude might be towards them.
