ABSTRACT
Chapter 15 covers the introduction of new statutory bodies: the United Kingdom Central Council (UKCC), the English National Board ENB and Project 2000 – which moved nursing and midwifery education to university status. The publication of Changing Childbirth in 1993 and the intransigence of medical men in moving towards the recommendations has been slow to follow. The growth of activism in childbirth issues continued, as did the role of independent midwives.
