ABSTRACT

E-Cheating is high stakes in the video games and online gambling industries, which are collectively worth more than a trillion dollars. Both industries have a long history of efforts to stop e-cheating. This chapter explores how e-cheating happens in video games and online gambling, the approaches used to stop e-cheating, and approaches that can be adapted to assessment security. Despite much bigger anti-cheating budgets than education, e-cheating is still yet to be defeated in games and gambling. The chapter concludes with an argument that the e-cheating threats in games and gambling represent a possible future state for e-cheating in education.
