ABSTRACT

The chapter opens with an explanation of how human resource management and managing employee motivation in agribusinesses are related. Then the chapter discusses the functions of human resource management. The differences between job specifications and a job description are given, followed by examples of recruitment methods and the process of employee selection. Next, the major steps in job orientation for employees are outlined. Compensation and benefits are briefly discussed, followed by a description of the performance evaluation process in an agribusiness. The purpose and various types of agribusiness training programs are highlighted as well as an outlining of criteria for promotion and advancement. Finally, the purpose and importance of an exit interview are discussed, combined with a brief description of the role and impact of labor unions in the agribusiness sector.
