ABSTRACT
Many people in Western society think all technology is good. However, there are also several very inappropriate technologies being promoted by sections of society, the key one of which is nuclear power. One of the most frustrating aspects is that denial of appropriate technology ignores the fact that this will create a large number of green jobs, more jobs than the fossil fuel and mining industries combined. Clearly, the proponents of ecomodernism are strongly anthropocentric, techno-centric and techno-optimistic. There are several inappropriate technologies to be considered, especially those based on the anthropocentric ideology of control of nature. All technology is not evil, but the rampant use of technology without an ‘Earth ethics’ has led us to the brink of disaster. The most frustrating aspect of the whole technology debate is that many governments and corporations remain in denial about this, and do all they can to oppose and hold back the flowering of renewable energy.
