ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how consultant Mary got the team engaged to manage their own destiny more effectively by modelling leadership behavior. Mary had made sure she had enough interaction with attendees so she could document the role the person wanted to play, or the role that Mary was asking them to play in the meeting. Facilitating this meeting, her first as a consultant, had forced Mary to think carefully on how to set it up and how to position herself. The chapter suggests to write the major elements of the meeting objective and the agenda up on the wall so participants have a visual shared guide. The initial wall agenda should match the written agenda, just not so much detail. The first step in the effective meeting is to confirm or modify the objective and the agenda. The wall agenda is easy to modify, while the written paper agenda remains as a reminder of the original meeting plan.
