ABSTRACT

Prime Minister Nehru had met Pakistan’s Prime Minister Liaquat Ali late in the night on 21 December 1947 at Government House, New Delhi (Rashtrapati Bhawan). The Tribune in an exceptionally long article suggested that Nehru had led India to the United Nations because India was unsure of defeating the invaders. The proposed Indian pilgrimage Lake Success will be perilous to Hindustan, particularly because it has allowed its position to be weakened by permitting itself to be entangled in Junagadh. In common perception the reference of the Kashmir issue to the United Nations was generally seen as a big mistake. From October, 1947, to the end of 1948, the military situation was paramount and our attention was mostly given to that situation. Even then we thought of the political aspects, as they were important. Owing to the reference to the United Nations certain international aspects came into the picture also.
