ABSTRACT

This chapter unpacks two important capabilities for organizations in the digital era: cybersecurity capability and information privacy and digital ethics capability. It outlines the meaning and need for these capabilities; the risk of not sufficiently investing in them; the functions, processes, and practices involved in establishing them; the role of hospitality and leisure managers in establishing and continuously improving these capabilities; and the competencies required to do so. Cybersecurity capability refers to how effectively an organization can protect itself and recover from cyber threats. Cybersecurity management refers to the processes and practices of planning, implementing, maintaining, and continuously upgrading an organization’s cybersecurity capability. Information privacy refers to an individual’s interest and/or ability to control, or at least significantly influence, the handling of data about themselves.
