ABSTRACT

This chapter unpacks the types of disruptions and discusses how they have played themselves out in the industry. It discusses how hospitality and leisure organizations have adapted to or reacted to disruptions, and how they have started their digital transformation journeys. The chapter provides a starting point and a lens for viewing digital disruption and understanding adaptation and transformation strategies. Digital technology advancements have changed the data available to hospitality and leisure organizations, to their consumers, and to their competitors. Most hospitality and leisure organizations have recognized the importance of digital transformation to their survival and competitiveness. Many have been making big but targeted investments in digital transformation efforts to increase guest satisfaction/loyalty, operational efficiency and effectiveness, and revenue growth.
