ABSTRACT

Every teacher willingly puts students first. Isn’t that why we all chose education as a profession? Unfortunately, in practice the situation is not always so clear. It’s easy to say, “Put kids first,” and “Make every decision based on what is best for students,” but not all teachers manage to do so. In some instances, however, the socializing may start to interfere with our supervisory responsibilities. Teachers realize that it might be safer and better for the students if each of us walked around the playground separately. Great teachers resist the temptation to socialize when they should be supervising. They know the value of interacting with other teachers, and so they treat their colleagues as the second most important group of people in the school. Focusing on students first can help teachers maintain a positive attitude. It can also help teachers maintain the practices and habits that support their best work.
