ABSTRACT

Swingler takes part in the Salerno landings and is involved in heavy fighting on the Volturno and Garigliano rivers, on the Anzio beachhead, at Castelforte, on the Germanno and Coriano ridges, at Rimini, on the Senio bulge, Lake Commachio and the River Po. MI5 prevent him joining Military Intelligence. At Monte Camino, Swingler is wounded and buried alive. He is made a Corporal at Anzio and later awarded the Military Medal for bravery.
