ABSTRACT
Swingler publishes his first and well-received novel, No Escape. He is active in the Left Book Club. He becomes friends with James Gibb and meets Stephen Spender. Peter Burra dies. Swingler becomes editor of Left Review. He writes Peace and Prosperity for Unity Theatre, and edits and publishes Nancy Cunard’s Authors Take Sides on the Spanish War.
