ABSTRACT

This chapter illuminates how China has positioned itself as an education destination for Nepalese students. It addresses the following research question applying the conceptual lens of soft power: What is the relationship between Nepalese students’ academic experiences in China and the latter’s aim to augment the influence of Chinese higher education program in Nepal? Toward this end, the chapter investigates academic experiences of Nepalese students (including alumni) enrolled in medical and social sciences programs in China, and highlights both limitations and positive aspects. It concludes by examining the nature of those experiences from the perspective of China’s soft power.
