ABSTRACT

The women of the Hebrew Bible do not merely serve male agendas; they are their very expression. As such, women and their bodies are critical to biblical hegemonic masculinity, necessary for its creation, and essential to its sustenance. Men become men and men become friends through the use and acquisition of women's bodies. Male friendship, alliance, and partnership does not only materialize through the use of women's bodies, it is engendered by it. This book concludes with a sad reality: the Hebrew Bible subscribes to a toxic hegemonic masculinity which was, is, and will continue to be dangerous for women.
