ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to provide guidelines for how to conduct an evaluation of goal attainment as part of a program evaluation plan; that is, the chapter overviews how to determine the extent to which the goals of a sport psychology program have been attained. First, the chapter offers relevant context about goal attainment program evaluation, including caveats to consider when undertaking this form of program evaluation. Second, it sets forth a rationale for the importance of goal attainment evaluation of a sport psychology program. Third, it describes the types of goals that may be part of a goal attainment evaluation of a sport psychology program. The last section of the chapter details how to conduct goal attainment evaluations for each of the types of goals. It presents examples of each kind of goal, a key evaluation question related to that goal, and potential methods to use for evaluating that type of goal.
