ABSTRACT

This chapter will look in detail at the UK sport development sector embedded with high education institutions (HEIs). In the last ten years the infrastructure with HEIs has considerably increased. It has, unlike local government, been a net ‘winner’. More and more universities provide elite sport scholarships and support to their teams that take part in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competitions. Furthermore, universities have considerable stock of facilities, which have the potential to host local community organisations and sessions for agencies such as local Active partnerships, regional NGB coaching and delivery arms, and social enterprises in sport in need of high-quality facilities. It looks at a case study of the UK HEI sector and sport development delivery within the sector.
