ABSTRACT
This chapter recaps the focus of the book, re-examining where sport development started out and where its trajectory has taken it to. Specifically, it looks at new forms that the profession is now taking, the shifts in recent decades of the type, and scope of work. This is worth acknowledging as the world of sport development you enter post-graduation is unlikely to resemble what you study or experience now. But the skills, knowledge, and understanding the chapter outlines are that with a good grasp of the foundations of sport development you will be well positioned to thrive in a rapidly changing sector. The chapter also outlines the important role of work experience placements to help shape contextualise academic knowledge and understanding.
