ABSTRACT

This chapter relocates our understanding of sport development beyond the boundaries of the UK. It provides us with context and tools to allow students to explore sport development practice through a more globalised lens. It questions some of the Anglo-centric foundations of sport development and gives the reader a more nuanced set of perspectives on wider definitions, concepts, and practices in the field. It introduces students to the notion of becoming part of a global community of sport development students and the global ‘reach’ of their enquiry. Finally, it uses the case study of the Rugby League World Cup 2021 to explore the local and global influences on sport development practice.
