ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the essence of central government in sport development and their associated quasi-non-governmental organisations in UK Sports Councils. The chapter look at UK strategy in Sporting Future (DCMS, 2015), but also how each of the home nations have been shaping their own policy and practice in sport development. It is an accessible starting point for beginning to research the background historical and contemporary context for sport development in each of these national policy spaces. National government in sport development plays a fundamental macro role in shaping regional and local provision in sport development. It is fundamental to understand the priorities, parameters, and scope of such national vision when embracing wider exploration of community sport development.
