ABSTRACT

This chapter begins by distinguishing between the concepts of site planning and overlay. It examines site options and distinguishes between competition/non-competition venues, as well as front-of-house and back-of-house. The chapter explores operations, logistics, and facility location, facility attendance and satisfaction, and especially green anagement/sustainability. It discusses the use of computer-aided design by functional areas (FA). It presents different key FAs and their roles before and during a major sports event, paying particular attention to the venue management team (VMT), the FAs’ adaptation, and reporting structure changes, citing as well new challenges with concerns around sustainability and common practices. VMTs create daily run sheets, which are detailed schedules that include the precise time allocations for the start and finish of competition, and the operations of every other FA based around the sport schedule. The chapter describes the importance of the sport and sport production FAs and their impact on other functions.
