ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the themes covered by this book. First, it analyzes the operation of law from a feminist perspective and in the process, it challenges the conventional stereotypes and the myths prevalent within the legal system. Second, it examines how the law regulates the violence and silence the feminist voices and the ways the discourse of the rights and justice is handled in the problematic way by the state agencies. The third goal this chapter achieves is that it draws together issues and debates surrounding the operation of law from the perspectives of battered women. The fourth dimension brings an insight from the social perspective to combine it with the legal theory and with feminist sociology.
