ABSTRACT
This chapter uses four ‘disappearance accounts,’ or accounts of how privileged perpetrators are written out of existence by hegemonic cultural narratives, to explain why our society is so bad at identifying privileged people as perpetrators of oppression. These accounts specifically pinpoint patriarchal ideologies, racial liberalism, and meritocratic myths as sources of ignorance about perpetrators of patriarchal, racial, and economic oppression and exploitation.
