ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some important general change-relevant factors that relevant to promote in both development-focused Single-Session Coaching and One-At-A-Time Coaching (SSC/OAATC) and problem-focused SSC/OAATC. If both coach and coachee approach the single session expecting that something meaningful can come out of it for the coachee and they do so with the intention of making that happen then these are essential ingredients for change in SSC/OAATC. SSC/OAATC is particularly suited for people who are stuck with a problem and want to take the first steps to become unstuck or who would like help to get started to develop them but want to take over the reins as soon as possible. Acceptance is a ‘buzzword’ in coaching and therapy at the moment, and when the coach uses the term, it is important for them to clarify what they mean by it. Change is uncomfortable, especially if it is meaningful, so it is vital for the coach to help the coachee to develop a ‘discomfort tolerance’ mindset.
