ABSTRACT

Macro theories are the structural and objective conditions which act as the push and pull factors for migration. Regarding economic migration, push factors are unemployment, low salaries or low per capita income relative to the country of destination. Meso theories reject the macro and focus on push and pull factors, instead locating migration flows within a complex system of linkages between states. Micro theories often draw on rational choice theory, which makes a number of assumptions about how and why individuals take decisions to leave. The general profile consists of the following variables: sex, age, religion, occupation, and monthly income. The chapter deals with the camp life of Sri Lankan refugees in the host country, the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Gummidipoondi and Bhavanisagar Camps have got a good playground infrastructure where children and adults play football or volleyball. Most of the respondents expressed that they are able to perform religious activities in the camps.
