ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an in-depth rationale and elaboration of the research design and analytical frameworks applied in this study. The chapter therefore begins by outlining the multidisciplinary research traditions drawn upon in this instance, namely corpus linguistics (CL) and discourse analysis (DA). An additional explication for combining qualitative DA and quantitative CL approaches in data analysis in this volume is also provided. The chapter considers the strategies of collaborative action research and the use of video in teacher professional learning. Finally, the MaTSS (Mathematics Teaching in Secondary School) corpus is presented in terms of design, data collection and treatment, and the two interpretative frameworks used in the data analysis are fully elucidated.
