ABSTRACT

Many in the entertainment lighting field choose to work as a freelancer instead of as an employee of a company. A labor union is a group of workers who unite to make agreements about decisions affecting their work. In some cases, the members work as employees under a union contract, while others are freelancers following union agreements and guidelines. Alternately, user might be a freelancer who the union calls to provide work opportunities, or just be a freelance union member that follows union standards and policies regarding their employment. Furthermore, union workers may be limited to only certain venues or productions and not have access to all productions happening in a city, venue, or location. Union workers are just as valuable as anyone else on a production. Unions provide security and support to their members and can be an asset to anyone’s career.
