ABSTRACT

Depending on one’s current position or job duty, there may be certain requirements for their employment. Degrees, experience, certification, and references are commonly essential for specific jobs. When relaying information about one’s lighting experience, be honest and concise. In many cases, they will have worked on countless different productions and do not need to list every show when applying for a new job. Instead, clearly explain one’s timeframe for working in their current position. Within the entertainment lighting profession, there are a few certifications that can be acquired. Most require extreme study followed by comprehensive testing. Entertainment electricians can gain certification through the Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP). The ETCP mission statement clarifies their goals. Many manufacturers of lighting equipment will offer training classes teaching attendees how to repair lighting fixtures. In order to comply with warranty status and to teach proper techniques, these seminars often come with a certification status.
