ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews of the basic exercises of the Suzuki training as the author teach them and re-identify which Rules of the Body are highlighted in each form. A working definition of action is a movement with a clear beginning, middle, and end. It begins from and is punctuated by a full ‘stop’ in the body. In working with the rule of Resistance, the author suggest working with a heavy resistance, as if the action is moving in the space through a thick substance. The score can be documented by noting the actions as well as the Rule of the Body used as the source for that action. Actions can be recorded in several ways depending on how the actor can best remember the action so it can be repeated precisely. The ability to read and label physical narratives in this way will be a skill that will be used in the rest of the coursework.
