ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author explains how to make a physical score by foregrounding the rules of the body culled from the Suzuki training. The homework will be to go back to the physical score, and take two more actions and foreground one with Tempo and one with Rhythm. To foreground Tempo, one must use it in the extreme so that an action occurs very quickly or very slowly. To enhance an action using Rhythm, one must introduce repetition, another rule of composition, because by virtue of the definition. The element of acceleration embedded in statues, in response to the ‘call’ or ‘go’, gives the actor the sense of reacting, in a fully embodied way, to a stimulus. The inner movement, created by the imbalance of being on half toe in the ‘brake’ or stop, also contributes to the ‘ready for anything-ness’.
