ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the use of a codified physical approach to text analysis and uses an affective memory technique called personal sourcing to inspire the physical score. It starts with haikus as the source material for the personal sources because they have clear images with a simple syntactical structure. The chapter uses the haiku to practice the basic personal sourcing technique, and then creates a physical score based on images. Lying on the floor or sitting in a chair in such a way that promotes good breath support and a relaxed abdomen, the actor connects to the breath. They allow the image of the favorite food to come into mind with as many sensory details as possible: temperature, texture, smell.
