ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 briefly describes the motivation for the book. Using an example of a lavish private ski resort, it contextualizes the concepts of inequality and rent seeking. In particular, it proposes that the ideology around income inequality is not black-and-white. Instead of vilifying all income inequality, it looks to build a more nuanced understanding of the consequences of income inequality through the lens of rent seeking. It also lays out the structure of the rest of the book.
