ABSTRACT

As a sign of how quickly the language in the workplace has changed around this subject, in 2018, P. Saintilan and D. Screiber discussed sexuality as a means of influence in the creative industries. A basic definition of sexual harassment is “any form of unwelcome behaviour of a sexual nature, which could be expected to make a person feel offended, humiliated or intimidated”. Saintilan and Screiber claim that the prevalence of alcohol in the creative industries can mean that people are more at risk of sexual harassment in our workplaces than others. One of the results of the publicity around the issue of harassment has been the creation of an organisation, Safe Theatres Australia, specifically set up to help companies develop guidelines to reduce the possibility of sexual harassment, bullying and discrimination in theatres.
