ABSTRACT

Chapter 8 summarizes the argument and sketches the depth of these troubles. Where Chapter 7 articulated some of the potential troubles that arise from FPIC’s uses, this chapter gestures towards the possibility of claiming FPIC to construct performative contradictions as a means of destabilizing pretenses of universality by highlighting the limited spatial and temporal dimensions of international legalities. The difficult challenges in using FPIC or Indigenous peoples’ rights claims for insurrectionary purposes arise from the presumptive universality of international legal discourse. But given that slippage occurs in every recitation, insurrectionary action remains possible. After gesturing towards that possibility, this chapter ends by reflecting on the limitations of this performative methodology.
