ABSTRACT

In the university, a further potential issue can be the over-prominence and sometimes dominance of the chair/chancellor in the process of search and selection. Of course, they have a critical role to play. The idea of integrated transitions and the central role of a transition team is not new. Its roots can be traced to applications in the political sphere. In Atkinson and Roberson’s introduction to the lessons learned, the authors re-emphasise the significance of the transition process: There are really only two main keys to a successful presidential transition: choose the right individual for the office and provide them with the right supports to be successful. External facilitation would also be worth considering, to ensure that all voices are heard and that transition teamwork is operating smoothly. The transition team needs to decide whether a search firm will be asked to assist with the process of seeking and pre-selecting candidates.
