ABSTRACT

Social Work Practice with Communities: Intervention, Termination, and Evaluation builds on the engagement and assessment content of Chapter 10 to present strategies and techniques for community practice. Using the insights gained about practice at the individual, family, and group levels, this chapter expands the students’ awareness of social work practice with communities through a discussion of skills for intervention, including community social and economic development, and community organizing. Examples of public and private efforts to promote evidence-based community practice assist students in applying the material. Additional guidance on advocacy efforts and asset building are presented. Students also learn the knowledge and skills needed for termination and evaluation of community practice. This edition offers discussion of the Grand Challenge for Social Work to “Reduce Extreme Economic Inequality” and content on follow-up as part of the change process with communities. The chapter case focuses on an intergenerational community gardening intervention.
