ABSTRACT
This chapter briefly summarised duelling in Russian classical literature and focused on the duels in nineteenth-century Russian literature. Particular attention was paid to War and Peace (1869) and Turgenev’s Fathers and Sons (1862). The duellist Bazarov is compared to aspects of contemporary toxic masculinity, represented here by gun-toting Men’s Rights Activists and incels.
