ABSTRACT

Jeremy Irons trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and worked with the RSC before embarking on a prolific film career. In his masterclass, like former-classmate Tim Pigott-Smith, he discusses the impact of mentor, Rudi Shelly, and gives acting insights into Long Day’s Journey into Night, The Real Thing, and The Winter’s Tale (which is also analyzed in Tim Pigott-Smith’s and Priyanga Burford’s chapters). Mr Irons reveals a useful physical technique he applied in Dead Ringers, and a vocal trick used in Wild Oats (similar to one mentioned in Ron Cook’s chapter). He also reveals a humorous cautionary tale from John Hurt. Mr Irons’ awards include an Oscar, a Tony, and an Emmy.
