ABSTRACT

Ironically, in an era where total quality management and internal customer service programs dominate the training agendas and public image campaigns of most companies, traditional images of line-staff hierarchies proliferate at every level. The antiquated notion that employees are “worker bees” is still more than tacitly implied for the X-Generation. When managers implement Active Involvement, members of the X- Generation gain a say in the action, a stake in outcomes, and the means to stay involved in strategic issues. A popular intervention for collecting X’er input involves the creation of an employee suggestion program. Related to the concept of suggestion systems, managers can provide opportunities for members of the X-Generation to participate in the evaluation of selected proposals.
