ABSTRACT
Reducing consumption of virgin pulp and diverting paper products from the waste stream may be the two best ways to diminish the waste crisis. But they’re only the beginning in the long fight to save the environment. Switch from chemical-based inks and pigments to soy or other vegetable-based products. They are far less toxic to manufacture and to recycle. The organization accepts new, used, or rejected videotapes, audiotapes, mastering tapes, floppy disks-magnetic media of all kinds. Those that are in good condition are donated to nonprofit organizations. Unusable plastics and magnetic material are recycled. Several electronics recycling companies are already in operation in the United States. When possible, they refurbish and resell fully functional equipment. Scrap metal recyclers melt down the metal chassis and the precious metals on many of the connectors and components. Some plastics can be recycled as well.
