ABSTRACT

Kate Owen trained at the Central School of Art and Design and began working at the Citizens’ Theatre, Glasgow. She became seduced by alternative and experimental theatre, designing the first productions of many new theatre pieces in the 1970s and 1980s. Her theatre designs have included: The Gut Girls and Gaslight (Albany Empire); Circus Moon (Half Moon); The Man Who Lit Up the World (Hackney Empire/LIFT Festival); On the Verge, East Lynne, Loot and Entertaining Mr Sloan (Birmingham Rep); Poppies, This Island’s Mine and Kitchen Matters (Gay Sweatshop); Two (Not the National Theatre); Stairway to Heaven (Shared Experience); and Betrayal (Two’s Company). Dance and visual theatre designs include: Labelled with Love (Albany Empire); Three Pieces (Extemporary Dance Theatre); Dirt, Cold Wars and Strokes of Genius (Blood Group); and Crazy Daisy and Ordinary Lives (Eaurie Booth). She has directed The Visitor and Familiar Feelings (Theatre Centre); and More (Gay Sweatshop).
